Inaugural lecture professor William Schabas

"The Three Charters: Making International Law in the Post-War Crucible" is the title of the inaugural lecture that William Schabas, professor of International criminal law and human rights, will be giving on 25 Januari 2013.

Over a three-year span following the Second World War, three seminal instruments defined the new legal order in a manner that still prevails today: the Charter of the United Nations, the Charter of the International Military Tribunal and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. There are strong affinities among these three texts, attesting to a common vision that is focussed on human dignity and peace. The lecture considers the development of these legal instruments and their relevance to the current debates.

Practical information

The lecture begins at 16.00 hrs sharp, in the Academiegebouw, Rapenburg 37 in Leiden.
