Leiden LLM student wins prestigious air law prize

Katja Brecke (Adv. LLM air and space law) compared rules for slot allocation (arrival and departure schedules at airports) and held them against the light of international regulations. She won the first prize in a competition organized by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Her prize consists of a trip to Vancouver, Canada, where the winner will be announced next Monday, February 14, in the presence of 300 air lawyers, mostly from airlines.


Recent international air law prizes

With this prize, Leiden has won all recent international air law prizes: best applicant memorial, best respondent memorial and winner of the International Air Law Moot Court (New Delhi, March 3-6, 2010), and the first three prizes in a competition for the best thesis, organised by the European Air Law Association (EALA; Vienna, November 5, 2010).

Next challenges

The next challenge is awaiting us in Dubai: the second International Air Law Moot Court (March 12-14, 2011). Leiden also participates again in the European round of the prestigious Manfred Lachs space Law moot court competition, which will be held in St. Petersburg in April.
