2013 has been a very successful year for the IIASL: students, staff and an alumna have won prestigious prizes; in fact, they won all international contests in this field of law.

It is Mars One's goal to establish a human settlement on Mars. The first unmanned mission is planned in 2018. From the 200,000 applicants recently 1000 candidates were selected. Bas Lansdorp (co-founder and CEO of Mars One) will present an update of the progress and the next steps and Tanja Masson wil highlight some of the legal issues.

CUPL - China University of Political Science and Law wins the Fourth International Air Law Moot Court in Abu Dhabi March 2013
From 9-12 March 2013, the 4th International Air Law Moot Court has taken place. This year the Moot Court took place in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Since 2010 the International Air Law Moot Court is organized yearly by the International Institute of Air and Space Law of Leiden University Law School in cooperation with the Sarin Legal Foundation from India, this year assisted by Etihad airways.
Our current Adv. LL.M. student Mr. Lazar Vrbaski from Serbia has been awarded with the European Air Law Association (EALA) prize for the best academic paper on a topical European aviation law related subject. He received the award on 9 November 2012 at the 24th Annual Conference held in Istanbul.
