Carl Mair completed his LL.M. (with distinction) at the University of Amsterdam, specialising in European Union Business Law. Prior to that, he obtained undergraduate degrees in law, economics and philosophy, having studied in both New Zealand and England.
In 2009, he worked for one year as legal research assistant to the Chief Legal Counsel at the Dutch Competition Authority (NMa) in The Hague. While there he helped with the organization of the biennial Conference of the International Law Association (ILA) at The Hague in August 2010, notably as assistant to the co-chairman of the Programme Committee.
Carl Mair currently works as legal counsel on intellectual property matters at a leading European semiconductor company and is a legal researcher at a European procurement law firm. In addition, he is preparing a PhD thesis at Leiden university on the topic of standardization, antitrust and patent law in high technology .
In 2011, Carl Mair was awarded the grand prize by the International Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property ('ATRIP') for his essay, 'Openness, Intellectual Property and Standardisation in the European ICT Sector'.
