From 2000 until 2008 G.K. (Ard) Schoep (1975) was first a trainnee research assistant and later a  PhD-fellow at the Institute for Criminal Law & Criminology of the Leiden Law School of Leiden University. He gave and still gives various criminal law courses. At the moment he is co-ordinator of the Bachelor 3 programma of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure and also gives a course in the masterprogramme.  In November 2008 he was appointed to Associate Professor of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure at the Institute for Criminal Law & Criminology. Since september 2007 he is also working as a judge substitute at the Court of Haarlem.

Research
Ard Schoep took his doctoral degree on October 20th 2008 with doctoral thesis about the judicial collaboration at the determination of the punishment, in which he has considered the question to what extent and under which conditions within the administration of justice a form of policy can be pursued with regard to the determination of the punishment. This thesis was part of the researchprogramme Judicial Cooperation (Rechterlijke Samenwerking) of the E.M. Meijers Institute. 
He is taking part in the researchprogramma Criminal Justice: Legitimacy, Accountability and Effectivity and is co-ordinator of the subprogramma about enforcement, interventions and sanctions(‘Handhaving, interventies, sancties’).
