Jasper de Bie studied Criminology at the VU University Amsterdam. Additionally, he worked parttime at the Police and was based in IJmond-Noord. He was part of an enforcement team at the Grand Bazaar in Beverwijk and did research on local crime trends furthermore. In 2010 he studied at Stellenbosch University, South Africa, for a year and did extensive empirical research on reconciliation and xenophobia. In 2011 he graduated from the international Master International Crimes and Criminology at the VU University Amsterdam.
As of September 2011, Jasper is appointed as a PhD-candidate at the Institute for Criminal Law & Criminology. For his research on Jihadi Networks in the Netherlands, he partially works at the Research Department of the Ministry of Justice in The Hague. His research on the development of Jihadi Networks in the Netherlands between 2001 and 2013 is based on closed police files and interviews with Public Prosecutors, Police investigators and lawyers. From a situational approach, he focusses on entry mechanisms, group structures and activities.
In addition to his research, he is the coordinator and lecturer of the Master course Actors in Law Enforcement.
